Previously, we emphasized the importance of SMS marketing and its significance for electronic marketing institutions. However, it's not enough to merely use this new marketing channel; we must make its usage effective.
 
In Turkey, SMS marketing is relatively new, and this new marketing channel faces several questions. One of the most common questions is, "How can we be effective in SMS marketing?"
 
But before answering this question, we need to define what we mean by "effective." The term carries different meanings for different people. One accepted answer is that there is no single concept of "effective"; it varies depending on the context. Thus, we conducted research and arrived at a definition of "effective" in SMS marketing.
 
If you are already using email marketing and have specific criteria, you can use some of these criteria for text messages as well. However, we must remember that the dynamics of SMS marketing differ significantly from email marketing. In this channel, messages should be emotionally directed and sincere. You should treat your customers with humanity, acknowledging their feelings, just as you would with your friends and family.
 
But, of course, these interactions should be within appropriate boundaries.
 
So, here are the characteristics of good SMS marketing:
 
1. Personalized: Stop sending repetitive text messages to your entire list. Use your customers' names to communicate with them on a personal level.
 
2. Segmented: Divide your list into groups based on common customer characteristics. Be fully aware of whom you are addressing.
 
3. Include links: Add links to your text messages and encourage your customers to interact with you by clicking on those links.
 
4. Be realistic: Address people in a lively and friendly language, not in an overly formal style. Don't worry, this won't make you appear unserious.
 
5. Avoid complexity: Don't complicate the messages with overly detailed content. After sending the direct message, guide them to your social media or website with supportive directions.
 
6. Timing matters: Know your customers' active times and when they are bombarded with data from social media and your website. Send messages at appropriate times and avoid sending them late at night.
 
By following these guidelines, you can ensure your SMS marketing is effective and resonates with your target audience, leading to better results and stronger connections with your customers.
